Pest Free Plimmerton

Friends of Mana Island is a volunteer group dedicated to restoring the island’s biodiversity, in partnership with DOC and Ngati Toa. We have working bees on the island and run guided trips throughout the year.

The predator-free island provides shelter for many birds, reptiles and insects including takahe, giant weta, bellbirds, kakariki, geckos and little blue penguins. An extensive planting programme saw 500,000 trees planted on the island making it a very special place to visit.
